The fruit for this wine was grown in our home vineyard, resting at 1,400 feet in the foothills of California’s Santa Cruz Mountains above Los Gatos. Planted in 1999, there are approximately 650 vines on this sloping one-acre vineyard site that produced just over four tons of fruit for the 2008 harvest. The grapes were hand harvested early in the morning and transported directly to the winery in small picking lugs. They were then immediately whole cluster pressed and fermented and aged in French oak barrels. The 2008 Chardonnay reveals wonderful green apple and pineapple aromas with essence of vanilla and honeysuckle. The palate explodes with fruit. A harvest basket of apple, pear, melon and banana are a wonderful contrast to the mineral flavors that are always evident in the wines from our estate hillside vineyard. These flavors all intertwine with cinnamon and clove spice, adding to the complexity of this wine. The mouth-filling richness and sweet toasty oak set the stage for the crisp lively finish. – GJ $40 per bottle Click here to download winemaker notes (Adobe PDF format) Order online or download our wine order request form (Adobe PDF format) |

We are very excited about the Syrah grapes from John Madden's Livermore Valley vineyard. John and Peggy are fellow ABC sports commentators, and during a lunch in New York City, John learned we wanted to produce Syrah. He graciously offered us grapes from his family vineyard and we were happy to accept! Madden Ranch has 20 acres of Concannon clone Syrah—one of the oldest Syrah clones in California—all on 5BB rootstock. Grapes were harvested on September 21, 2007 and October 4, 2007 and each lot was taken to our winery where a 3 day cold soak was followed by yeast inoculation. The wine was aged in French oak for 15 months before bottling. From the deeply purple 2007 Madden Ranch Syrah aromas of blackberries and freshly roasted coffee arise, with tempting hints of caramel and molasses. Once tasted, the wine releases its flavors of ripe black fruit, dark chocolate and roasted meats with cracked black pepper, and a bit of clove and toasty oak. The Madden Ranch Syrah is a rich, mouth-coating wine with an abundance of palate pleasing tannins followed by the balanced acidity in the fruit laden finish. — GJ $40 per bottle Click here to download winemaker notes (Adobe PDF format) Order online or download our wine order request form (Adobe PDF format) |

These grapes come from a carefully tended hillside vineyard in the Santa Cruz Mountains near Los Gatos. The wine was barrel aged in French oak for 15 months to provide additional structure and balance. This is an excellent example of what a coastal climate Syrah should be. The 2007 Black Ridge Vineyard Syrah exhibits intriguing aromas of blackberry and wild black cherries with layered notes of spice, chocolate, coffee and caramel. On the palate the wine shows its vibrant core of blackberry and raspberry that expand with well-proportioned flavors of molasses, nutmeg, and a touch of earthiness and French oak. The wine’s firm, ripe tannins and juicy acidity will allow it to evolve and age graciously for many years. — GJ $40 per bottle Click here to download winemaker notes (Adobe PDF format) Order online or download our wine order request form (Adobe PDF format) |

Choreography represents our role of creating the stage for our vines and grapes to achieve their highest expression in the vineyards and at the winery. The grapes for this wine come from vineyards near Yountville that are managed by the Nord family, a family with a distinguished tradition in Napa Valley winegrowing. Choreography is a blend of four classic Bordeaux varietals --- 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot. Our dark ruby colored 2006 Choreography exhibits an extraordinary bouquet of dark cherry, blackberry and crème de cassis intermixed with vanilla, molasses and chocolate mint. On the palate it confirms the depth of the rich red and black fruit enhanced with hints of clove, vanilla, cinnamon and cocoa. Choreography finishes with pleasing levels of acidity and creamy, ripe tannins to give the wine an excellent structure to complement its richness. – GJ $50 per bottle Click here to download winemaker notes (Adobe PDF format) Order online or download our wine order request form (Adobe PDF format) |
