Fleming Jenkins Vineyards & Winery

Distinguished wines require distinctive vineyards, and we have taken great care in locating exceptional vineyard sites. At the winery, the grapes are fermented and barrel aged in their original small lots which gives us the ability to monitor their development on the way to becoming a Fleming Jenkins wine. Our goal is to produce vineyard focused wines that express the personality of sites and clones, while exhibiting the grace and finesse we admire in great wine.

The fruit for this wine was grown in our home vineyard, resting at 1,400 feet in the foothills of California’s Santa Cruz Mountains above Los Gatos. Planted in 1999, there are approximately 650 vines on this sloping one-acre vineyard site that produced just over three tons of fruit for the 2006 harvest. The grapes were hand harvested early in the morning and transported directly to the winery in small picking lugs. They were then immediately whole cluster pressed and fermented and aged in French oak barrels.

Our Chardonnay starts with aromas of honeydew melon, pear, cinnamon and vanilla. Once tasted, rich flavors of peach, green apple and tropical fruit come through and lead into a crisp lemon drop and mineral finish. – GJ

We are very excited about the Syrah grapes from John Madden's Livermore Valley vineyard. John and Peggy are fellow ABC sports commentators, and during a lunch in New York City, John learned we wanted to produce Syrah. He graciously offered us grapes from his family vineyard and we were happy to accept!

Madden Ranch has 20 acres of Concannon clone Syrah—one of the oldest Syrah clones in California—all on 5BB rootstock.

Grapes were harvested on October 5, 2005 and were taken to our winery where a 3 day cold soak was followed by yeast inoculation. The wine was aged in French oak for 14 months before bottling.

Our wine shows overlapping aromas of dark plum, cranberry, slate, eucalyptus, and new leather followed by tastes of dark fruit, raspberry and brown sugar. This Syrah is further supported by ripe grape tannins and acidity which leave the palate with a supple finish and memories of a wonderfully balanced wine. — GJ

These grapes come from a carefully tended hillside vineyard in the Santa Cruz Mountains near Los Gatos. The wine was barrel aged in French oak for 14 months to provide additional structure and balance. This is an excellent example of what a coastal climate Syrah should be.

This wine has aromas of cherry, dark fruit and crushed black pepper that are complemented by touches of smoke, forest floor and mushroom. You will find flavors of raspberry, cherry and spice lead the way to a long lasting finish, creating a food-friendly wine with juicy tannins and balanced acidity — GJ

Choreography represents our role of creating the stage for our vines and grapes to achieve their highest expression in the vineyards and at the winery. The grapes for this wine come from vineyards near Yountville that are managed by the Nord family, a family with a distinguished tradition in Napa Valley winegrowing.

In the glass this Cabernet Sauvignon based wine shows its deep ruby color with purple hues. As it opens in the glass the beautiful aromas of black cherry, raspberry, black currant and coffee along with nuances of dark chocolate, caramel and mint emerge and showcase its complexity. On the palate it delivers sweet dark fruits, cassis, mocha and smoky oak with a touch of ground black pepper and cedar. Choreography delivers a fruit laden finish with sweet tannins and supporting acidity creating a racy yet elegantly refined wine. – GJ

Victories is a wonderful dry rosé, and was created specifically to raise funds for breast cancer research and awareness. $2 from every bottle sold will be donated to charities supporting this cause.

Aromas of strawberry, honeysuckle and orange blossom rise from the wineglass followed by flavors of raspberry, nectarine and pomegranate. This dry Rosé is balanced by a rich mouth-feel and bright acidity leading to a lingering fruit finish with a hint of lemon peel. – GJ
