Volume #40: October 2008

Harvest Wrap-Up
In our last newsletter, harvest was just beginning with a little over four tons of our Jenkins Vineyard Chardonnay from our home vineyard. Now, we have completely finished our biggest harvest ever, with a final total of 48.1 tons for the 2008 harvest, up 33% from the 36 tons we processed in 2007. Both September and October turned out to be great months for the grapes to finish ripening÷lots of warm, sunny days without any heat spikes. While the fruit is safely in the winery, the winemaking cycle is far from over. Some of the lots we harvested earlier in the season are resting in barrel, but the most recent red grape lots still need to finish up primary fermentation, be pressed and barreled-down. Like our newly created wines, we are ready to be put to rest through the winter months after getting through the ever changing complexities of managing harvest. Instead we will move on to new projects as we look forward to the holiday season!
Available Exclusively In Our Tasting Room - 2004 Petite Sirah Dessert Wine
We are excited to announce the inaugural release of our new wine, available exclusively in the Tasting Room ö Petite Sirah Dessert Wine from the Salman Vineyard in Clarksburg, CA. This port-style wine is great for those who enjoy sweeter wines and is perfect for the upcoming cold fall and winter months. We used double-distilled brandy to fortify the wine and stopped fermentation at 9% residual sugar. This same methodology has been used in Portugal to make traditional Port since the late 1600âs. The wine enjoyed 30 months of slumber in French oak to soften the tannins and to add sweet caramel notes to the boysenberry fruit. The 2004 Petite Sirah Dessert Wine is available for purchase for $34 per 375 mL bottle. Only 97 cases were produced. Come visit us to taste this very limited wine.
